Hi and welcome on my new blogpost and oh dear I have to warn you, I have a new addiction! Hot foiling, yes I admit I am addicted from the beginning... My amazing dad gave it me as a late birthday present and I am such a happy woman!!! And at the very end I have an announcement to make, so stay tuned...
Encouragement card
To start with, when I asked this present I have bingewatched all the videos about foiling from Pinkfresh Studio, Jennifer McGuire, some of Yana Smakula and others I found on my search. So my advice is watch those videos before you start, it really really helps a lot! And the paper, I have ordered the Hammermill with help from family in Germany, but those are made with my cheapest paper and it foils so nicely!
My mother asked if I had a feel better soon card or something, because of a friend who is very ill. I said I have best wishes, is that good? She said yes! I know the person and I thought a butterfly would be nice. I had actually foiled it already with the spellbinders glimmer hot foil Aura. I also bought the matching stencils and dies and blended the butterfly with salvaged patina, broken china and wilted violet. The background is foiled with the lush vines hot foil plate and the moondust foil and the best wishes is from the brushed sentiments set and I used the solid plate for a reverse.
To foil I use the glimmer hot foil machine from Spellbinders, because it works together with my Sizzix Big Shot plus. I used the cheap card making cardstock, which is pre scored paper 240 GSM white paper and it foils very nicely. For the background and butterfly I heated up the plate, added the foil with the pretty side touching the pretty side of the plate and add some paper and the two shims. Got it ones through my big shot and it foiled perfectly! The reverse with the solid plate took me some learning, I need to add two additional cardstock shims of 300 GSM cardstock and one watercolour cardstock 200GSM paper shim for great results with my sentiments, for the other plates the two cardstock shims are enough. And for the solid hot foil plate I heat it up twice or triple times and get it back and forward twice through my sizzix machine for enough heat and pressure.
I added 3M foamtape behind the butterfly and doubled it behind the wing for more dimension and also the sentiments have dimension with foamtape. The cardfront is glued with Dutch Doobadoo liquid glue on a Heffy Doodle cardbase and the card is US A2 size, so 11" (scored at 5.5") by 4.25".
Birthday card
Because of Kingsday, a national holiday in the Netherlands, I joined a instagram hop and won a gift card for Carlijn Design. I wanted to purchase the Gefeliciteerd (congratulations in Dutch) hot foil and dies and this was perfect timing! So I bought it and a day later it arrived!
Apparently our neighbour who is giving us advice for our garden is celebrating his 70th or 75th birthday today, my mother said again, do you have a nice card? So I made one with the foiled parts I had foiled this afternoon.
The background is again made with the lush vines hot foil plate from Pinkfresh, but now I used the skybright foil. The butterfly is made with the Aura foil and the same colours as the last one, because the two belong together. The Gefeliciteerd is the reverse made with Moondust foil.
Both cards I blend with the same colours and used a light and a heavy hand for colourchange. The gefeliciteerd is made with the solid plate again and I used all the shims I mentioned before and it foiled so perfectly!
I cut this panel with my Hero Arts nesting rectangles and used the biggest one for a nice A2 card front and glued it with liquid glue on a card base from Heffy Doodle.
The butterfly has a little bit of foamtape in the middle, I bended the wings to give it more dimension. The gefeliciteerd has also foamtape on the back, but the whole back is covered.

So I told you I have an announcement to make, next Tuesday, May 3rd it is World Asthma Day and because of this important day I organized a blog and Instagram hop with an amazing giveaway and amazing carddesigners who are joining the hop! So stay tuned for the hop!
