Some friends deserve an extra special card, this friend had some very very bad luck (understatement) in life and now she is doing very fine luckily, but she is such a kind person, loves homemade cards and I like to step it up for her. While I was scrolling through my insta feed I saw a card by marine23simon and it inspired me, I immediately thought about this friend and so I started with an idea and while making I came up with other things to add.
I started with prepping my cardstock with antistatic powder and the Spark of goodness stamp from Pinkfresh Studio with my WOW embossing ink and I used the beautiful Hero Arts white satin pearl embossing powder. After heat setting it I ink blended the whole panel with the new Saltwater taffy distress oxide, oh I love this colour! And I used kitchen papertowel to remove the excess from the powder for a nice emboss resist look. I used one of the layering stencils with some abandoned coral for some darker details and after that I used the die that comes with it and cut the middle part out of it. After that I took my hero arts nesting rectangle dies to cut the US A2 size and be sure it was straight as I wanted, but apparently I was a bit off, because it wasn't the way I had in mind, but good enough luckily.
I really wanted to use a diecut of the Big Ben, we both love London and I haven't used that die (shame on me) it is a die from Joy crafts. I cut it and used the pearl spray from Crafter's Companion and it turned out so good and it fits the embossing powder. At the bottom of the stamp is a flower I cut away to show more of the Big Ben die and that looked better, but I cut it that way I could always put it back in place. I glued the Big Ben at the back of the panel with liquid glue. After that I put score tape at the back to cover the most and I cut a piece of acetate to cover all the gaps and also the Big Ben so it was glued to the acetate too.
For the inside I was doubting, tried some different kinds of coloured cardstock, but nothing was the right colour. So I blended some cardstock from my stash which is 216GSM I thought and blended it totally with distress oxide abandoned coral, kind of a shade darker than saltwater taffy. I diecut it with a nesting retangle die a size smaller than the US A2 size and I used the silicon pad and impression plate of sizzix for embossing the very nice hearts and stars coverplate die. It is so lovely the texture and since I am making a shakercard I didn't want to cut it. For this I used the combination of the base plate, the embossing addition shim, a plastic plate, the silicon pad, paper with the colour up, the die plate on it with the cutting edges into the paper and the impression plate.
Since I am planning a shakercard I need some dimension. So I cut pieces of my 3M scotch foamtape and fold it. I have learned a great trick from Cathy Zielske, the outside isn't tacky, so where the two ends meet together I keep that on the inside so the shaker material doesn't stick to it and I don't need to use an antistatic powder tool to remove the stickiness. I let the release paper on it to see how it looks. I took some different shakermaterials and made a nice mix, I will list them below. Glued the back on it with the shakermaterial in it.
Further I have heat embossed some flowers of the brighter days set with saltwater taffy and the leaves with salvaged patina and the details too but with a heavier blend. I also die-cutted them and I placed them in multiple compositions on the card until I was satisfied. The flowers couldn't be to big, because of the gorgeous background, the leaves where a nice touch and the salvaged patina matches so nice with the saltwater taffy! The flower I cut from the bottom I had saved it and placed it back and it was just perfect. The leaves were just glued with liquid glue, the flowers with 3M foamtape and the middle flower I cut apart is taped with heffy doodle 3mm foamstrips. For the finish I used wink of stella to add some glitter to te flowers of the background stamp, but I used much so the colour changed on purpose because the distress oxide is water reactive. And for the finishing touch I added some crystals from the shakermaterials I used.
This card is hard to capture in a picture, the shine on the Big Ben and the wink of stella is hard to capture too, also the pretty embossing powder. But hopefully you can see the beauty in it.
